Crowds gear up for Soapbox Derby day in village near Daventry
The event takes place on Saturday, July 9, down the steep road in the centre of Welton village.
Travelling at speeds of 30mph and above, local and national teams will take on the 500-metre course, starting at The White Horse pub.

Hide AdThe event gets under way at midday, with racing starting at about 12.30pm. There are 44 soapbox teams signed up to take part in the races. Watching the races is free. People attending should follow signs to the official car parks in order to avoid blocking roads.
The teams will compete in three categories – eight to 11 years, 12 to 15 years, and 16+ years.
Teams taking part include Karty McKartface, Trumpton’s Finest, The Welton Cannonball, Team Nissan, and Mad Max.
There will be lots of additional entertainment on the playing field including large bouncy castles for the kids, and classic summer fair activities.
Entertainment will continue into the night with live music at The White Horse including a return from local heroes Got It Covered.
